MEANJIN QUEER TRANS NOISE ANARCHISTS

Dubbed, “Meanjin’s best new punk band,” GAY RECESS is an in-your-face queer-core punk band from Meanjin, in so-called Australia. The band formed in 2021 from the colliding of aggressive, break-neck tunes and a burning need for a LGBTQ+ revolution. Though thoroughly punk, the band also blends metal and grunge influences to create songs that feature weighty guitars, pounding drums, and a bass line that you feel in your chest.

Comprised of four members – PBR Possum (They/Them) on vocals/guitar, Layni Cameron (He/They) on vocals/guitar, Florence Lingane (She/Vir) on drums, and Adam Shay (He/Him) on bass. Layni’s powerful voice with Possum’s harsh yells alone creates an affront to the listener. Combining this with Florence’s stick-breaking performance and Adam’s explosive bass antics always leaves the audience craving one more song.

After exploding onto the scene in late 2021, Gay Recess refuses to slow down, with regular shows, ranging from supports to headliners in venues across southeast Queensland.

Currently, the band is working on their debut EP, featuring tracks such as “Fuck Up My Brain (Baby!)” and “RATS!”, due for release in Spring 2022.
